“This book is a valuable addition to the relatively limited information available on the subject.” – International Agricultural Development on the first edition
Food processing is a valuable way of preserving food to increase food security, minimize waste and generate extra income.
This guide provides development workers and small-scale entrepreneurs with the basic information and advice that they need to set up a small-scale food processing enterprise. Part one considers the food processes that are suitable for different crops including fruit and vegetable products; cereal and pulse-based products; milk and milk products, and meat and fish products. Part two is an annotated directory giving the appropriate equipment needed to process a particular food, an index of manufacturers, the approximate costs and the names and addresses of manufacturers. The potential uses of various equipment is examined and much of the equipment is clearly illustrated.
In this new edition the main text which guides the reader through the stages of food processing activities has been reorganized and clarified, and the catalog section, listing suppliers in approximately 50 countries, has been completely updated.
"These two statues one symbolizing agriculture and the other industry once stood at the main entrance of the Board of Trade Building built in 1885. The statues greeted commodity traders and the public for 45 years. The Two 5-ton granite statues, were thought to be lost when the Chicago Board of Trade's 1885 building was demolished to make way for a new structure in 1929. In 1978, the statues were rediscovered when the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County purchased what is now Hidden Lake Forest Preserve in Glen Ellyn. The forest preserve is the former estate of Arthur Cutten, a prominent Chicago Board of Trade speculator in the early 1900s. It is not known how the 12-foot statues made the journey from Chicago to the Cutten estate. Neither their sculptor nor their country of origin is known.

agriculture equipments in india
With the decline of family farms and rural communities and the rise of corporate farming and the resulting environmental degradation, American agriculture is in crisis. But this crisis offers the opportunity to rethink agriculture in sustainable terms. Here one of the most eloquent and influential proponents of sustainable agriculture explains what this means. These engaging essays describe what sustainable agriculture is, why it began, and how it can succeed. Together they constitute a clear and compelling vision for rebalancing the ecological, economic, and social dimensions of agriculture to meet the needs of the present without compromising the future.
In Crisis and Opportunity, John E. Ikerd outlines the consequences of agricultural industrialization, then details the methods that can restore economic viability, ecological soundness, and social responsibility to our agricultural system and thus ensure sustainable agriculture as the foundation of a sustainable food system and a sustainable society.
